Urgently looking for Animal Intake Supervisor

Animal Intake Supervisor Volunteer Position:

​

Time Commitment

3 hours 2-3 days per week. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required. Hours 8:30am-11:30am

​

Role Description
  • Record / Monitor animal intake in isolation trailer

  • Engage / Monitor animal medication treatment plans with medical logs

  • Clean isolation trailer and cages. 

  • Stock trailer with needed towels, beds, litter, dishes, water

  • Remove discarded litter, garbage

  • Report animal welfare concerns to management

  • 18 year of age minimum

  • Able to be at the shelter to begin on time

  • Must be self-motivated, detail oriented and work independently

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others inside and outside of The Comfie Cat Shelter

  • Must love cats 

Moring Feeder Volunteers

Morning Shelter Feeders:

Time Commitment

2 hours once per week (or more days if you wish), you pick your day. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required.

Hours 8:30-10:30am

​

Role Description

  • Feed all cats in containment rooms

  • Feed all cats within the corridors of the shelter

  • Feed all cats in infirmary

  • After feeding is complete, condense multiple food bowl remains into single large plate and remove dirty dishes and take back to kitchen

  • Rinse all aluminum tins and put outside in supplied recycle bins

  • Clean kitchen area and wash up dishes/load dishwasher

Qualifications
  • 18 year of age minimum

  • Able to be at the shelter to begin on time (these kitties get real excited for their breakfast)

  • Must be self-motivated and detail oriented

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others inside and outside of The Comfie Cat Shelter

  • Must love cats 

Intake Supervisor
Cleaning Volunteers

Urgently looking for Animal Cleaning Team Member Volunteers

Animal Cleaning Team Member

​

While not the most glamorous role, our Animal Cleaning Team play a vital role in assisting the shelter to function. It is a critical part of keeping the cats healthy and safe while in care at the shelter.
​
Time Commitment

1-3 hours once per week (or more days if you wish), you pick your day. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required.

Morning Hours 10am-1pm (or at least some of that)

Afternoon Hours 2-5pm (or at least some of that)

Role Description

Note: The following duties will be dispersed evenly between available volunteer cleaners

  • Arrive onsite for 10am for the morning shift

  • Retrieve any remaining dirty dishes from morning feeding

  • Pick your room to clean and follow our easy step-by-step process:

  1. Clean/refresh all existing cat boxes of fecal matter and replace boxes with clean ones

  2. Sweep room area, moving obstacles out of the way and replacing when done

  3. Wipe down walls and perch surfaces with supplied required cleaner

  4. Complete room by mopping floor with supplied required cleaner

  • This format is to be followed for every room until rooms have been reset

  • Please return all mop buckets, mops, brooms, fecal bins and cleaning supplies back to their proper location at end of shift so no items are cluttering the hallway

  • Hallway is mopped at the very end

  • We encourage each volunteer to engage with cats for socialization and enrichment purposes upon room completion, it is a win/win for both cats and volunteers

  • We ask all volunteers interacting with cats in the rooms they are responsible for, to identify and report any behavioural concerns

Qualifications
  • 12-15 year olds must be accompanied by a parent, otherwise minimum age is 16+

  • Able to be at the shelter to begin on time

  • Must be self-motivated, detail oriented and work independently

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others inside and outside of The Comfie Cat Shelter

  • Must love cats

**Should you choose to volunteer specifically for weekend cleaning, we ask that you commit to 2 Saturdays OR 2 Sundays a month. 

Kitchen Helper

Laundry / Kitchen Helper Team Member

While not the most glamorous role, this is a critical part of keeping the cats healthy and safe while in care at the shelter.
​
Time Commitment

1-3 hours once per week (or more days if you wish), you pick your day and pick your choice of morning or afternoon. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required.

Role Description

  • Arrive onsite for morning or afternoon shift

  • Fill dishwasher and run it

  • Wash any remaining dishes or empty dishwasher once cleaned

  • Put away all clean dishes and minor cupboard organizing 

  • Facilitate washing/drying/folding of towels/bedding in laundry room ready to be cleaned

  • Wash any litter pans ready for cleaning

  • Sweep the kitchen floor with a good once over

Qualifications
  • 12-15 year olds must be accompanied by a parent, otherwise minimum age is 16+

  • Able to be at the shelter to begin on time

  • Must be self-motivated, detail oriented and work independently

Front Desk Reception

Front Desk Reception Volunteer Position:

Time Commitment

4-6 hours per week, you pick your day. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required. Hours 10am-4pm (or at least part of that timeframe, coverage in the afternoon is most helpful, you pick your day)

Role Description
  • Greet visitors - You will be the first point of contact

  • Answer phones

  • Handle emails

  • Provide responses to any general questions on adoption/surrender/volunteering

  • Relay any urgent concerns to the appropriate team member

Qualifications
  • 18 years of age minimum

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Speak and write in clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate communication tools and techniques

  • Self-motivated and detail oriented

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others inside and outside of The Comfie Cat Shelter

  • Must be passionate about animal welfare

Petsmart Voluneer

Adoption Centre at Petsmart Orillia

Time Commitment

1-3 hours once per week (or more days if you wish), you pick your day and time within store hours. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required.

​

Role Description

  • Feed all cats in condos (six condos total)

  • Provide fresh water for cats in condos as refresh water in community area while they are socializing

  • Clean litter boxes in condos and the one in social area

  • Reset (clean) kitty condos

  • Record cat health (what you have observed ie. eating/drinking/voiding etc. within log book

  • Must be able to assist potential adopter in filling out adoption application. NOTE you will not be processing the adoptions

  • Enjoy time playing and socializing with kitties.

Qualifications
  • 19 year of age minimum

  • Able to lift kitties into condos

  • Must be self-motivated and detail oriented

  • Must love cats 

Feline Socializer

Time Commitment

Any afternoon between 2-4pm once per week (or more days if you wish), you pick your day. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required.

Role Description

  • Playing with the cats, engaging, petting, gaining trust of some felines that may not be as social

  • Brushing/grooming and checking ear cleanliness

  • Observe any medical distress concerns and reporting it to management

​

Qualifications
  • You will be required to sign a waiver of non-liability regarding possible bites, scratches and the like.

  • Minimum age 19

  • Must love cats 

*This position does NOT qualify for student volunteer hours.

Feline Socializer
Special Interest

Public Relations Representative

Overview:
The Comfie Cat Shelter is seeking a passionate and dedicated Public Relations Representative to help elevate our community presence and promote our mission of caring for and finding homes for cats in need. This volunteer role will focus on building relationships with local businesses, media outlets, and the community to raise awareness and support for our shelter.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaison with Business Owners:

    • Establish and maintain relationships with local business owners.

    • Discuss partnership opportunities and the possibility of donation boxes for The Comfie Cat Shelter.

  • Event Promotion:

    • Distribute flyers for CCS events to local businesses, community centers, and other relevant locations.

    • Collaborate with team members to promote upcoming events effectively.

  • Media Relations:

    • Communicate with local publications to secure features, interviews, and stories highlighting the shelter and its mission.

  • Radio Outreach:

    • Liaise with local radio stations to arrange for spotlights on The Comfie Cat Shelter.

    • Coordinate interviews or segments that raise awareness about our work and upcoming events.

  • Community Engagement:

    • Represent The Comfie Cat Shelter at community events to foster relationships and spread the word about our mission.

    • Collect feedback and ideas from community members to enhance our outreach efforts.

 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

  • Passion for animal welfare and community service.

  • Previous experience in public relations, or communications is a plus but not required.

 

Commitment:

  • Flexible hours; ideally, a commitment of 2-3 hours per month is expected.

Social Media Coordinator

​

Overview:The Comfie Cat Shelter is looking for a creative and enthusiastic Social Media Coordinator to manage our Facebook and Instagram platforms. This role is essential for increasing our online presence, engaging with our community, and promoting our mission to care for cats in need.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation:

  • Develop and schedule 3-4 engaging posts per day, focusing on shelter updates, adoptable cats, events, and community involvement.

  • Create visually appealing graphics and captions that reflect The Comfie Cat Shelter's voice and mission.

  • Community Engagement:

  • Respond to comments and messages in a timely manner to foster a positive community atmosphere.

  • Collaboration:

  • Work with the shelter team to gather content, including photos, stories, and event information.

  • Reel creation of the cats available for adoption a plus.

  • Collaborate on campaigns and special events to ensure cohesive messaging across platforms.

  • Trend Monitoring:

  • Stay up-to-date with social media trends and best practices to keep our content

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Facebook and Instagram platforms using Meta Business Suite.

  • Strong writing and communication skills.

  • Basic graphic design skills are a plus (experience with tools like Canva is helpful).

  • Passion for animal welfare and community outreach.

 

Commitment:

  • Approximately 3 hours per week, with the flexibility to schedule posts in advance.

Special Interest Volunteer Positions:

Special areas of interest are in need of volunteers. These skills or qualifications which have to be discussed with the Manager. For example, only Vet Tech students or others with health care experience would be allowed to administer medications or deal with cat health issues in the infirmary. Many of the tasks below require time in the evening and/or weekends.

For all private and confidential material, you agree to exercise reasonable care and caution to protect and maintain total confidentiality. You will not read records or discuss related information unless there is a legitimate purpose. You will not discuss confidential Shelter information with others, including immediate family members, who are not also volunteers of The Comfie Cat Shelter, during and after your tenure as a volunteer.

 

You agree not to remove, temporarily or permanently, any confidential records or information from the premises of the shelter without the express consent of the Shelter Manager.

 

You agree to release any information and/or physical assets of The Comfie Cat Shelter (eg. Website administrator passwords, electronic files, key) to the Shelter immediately upon your cessation as a volunteer. By submitting the above application, you affirm that you have read, understand, agree to and will abide by this Confidentiality Agreement and grant The Comfie Cat Shelter permission to contact the references listed in the application.

Liability Waiver: You acknowledge that, as a volunteer of The Comfie Cat Shelter, you may be in regular contact with pets and this may include assisting with pet adoptions at other venues.

 

You understand that The Comfie Cat Shelter is not responsible for any illness or injury caused by any animals you come in contact with during my volunteer work.

 

You agree to hold harmless and release from liability The Comfie Cat Shelter should I become sick or injure as a result of my volunteer work.
